D'oh!

I suppose there's no better time than Halloween for this post. I have always wanted to give out toothbrushes in lieu of sticky candy, but could never find affordable ones in bulk. It's just as well though, I suppose. Being TP'd is never too much fun.

Have you ever thought, "I wish there was a book about that," then thought a little more and realized, "Hey, I could write a book about that!" Too late, fine folks. Deceptively Delicious is here. But now is the time to place your hold-- Oprah has been talking about this one.

I am as into getting our kids to consider all food groups with an open mind as anybody, and do not consider hiding veggies in other foods to be deceptive. I do, however, like to err on the side of caution. I'm more than happy to add more vegetables to our diet by hiding them. I have been using Sneaky Kitchen online for years now.

Besides, what a person tastes can become less surprising after many tries. I wonder whether slowly increasing certain ingredients in certain recipes would increase likelihood of approval later? I look forward to noodling with these recipes when our copy comes in.

Where are the bonbons I was promised?

Today's notes to self:

  • Babysit for a friend in the morning
  • Continue reading a Jane Austen novel for Friday book club
  • Complete a mermaid costume-- home stretch now!
  • Finish/freeze Red Hot Gala applesauce that's bubbling and making the kitchen smell AWESOME
  • Help Fiona learn new origami animal for zoogami project
  • Make and deliver dinner for pal with newborn-- we can eat pbj?
  • Think of scintillating discussion questions for Invention of Hugo Cabret for homeschool book discussion group
  • Bathe girls
  • Trick or Treat at Georgetown tonight with the lovely Marra & Co.
  • Experience the wonder of iGoogle before bed

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...

Thing Number ummm... RSS Feeds

OK, I'm back. No really, I'm back! Two ridiculously, mind-alteringly achy tooth extractions later, and I'm into Learning 2.0 again. Dry socket is a thing of the past, and I'm ready to catch up on the blogs I love. And a helluva lot of cooking, cleaning, and sundry other pleasantries.

And, thanks to RSS feeds, I should have even more time to change the litter boxes! Why didn't I bother to choose between Bloglines and Google Reader a long time ago? I looked at both again, as well as a couple others, but since so many people have been raving about iGoogle on their blogs I decided to go with Google Reader, all else seeming roughly equal. If I become dissatisfied, I can change easily enough.

Now that I have all the blogs that I used to sit down and check every now and then entered into Google Reader, I'm a little overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of my reading material. Reading blogs is a little like eating Oreos. Unless you're paying attention, you really have no idea how much you're consuming. Casually glance down during a Battlestar Galactica commerical break only to discover an entire row of Oreos have gone down the cakehole. Think of the saturated fat alone!

But it's the same volume of information whether it's all neatly gathered or whether I go foraging for it myself, so I see no good reason not to let Google do the dirty work. Now I have more time for Battlestar Galactica. And Oreos.
